00/hr The Water Fitness Instructor is responsible for conducting water fitness classes usingYMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley standards and the standards of other water fitness certification agencies if needed.
The Water Fitness Instructor will ensure the safety of participants at all times by communicating the risks of any fitness program to participants and preventing injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1.
Serve as a role model to members and YMCA Staff.
Lives the mission, vision, and values of the YMCA Movement.
2.
Facilitate and execute quality water fitness programs.
3.
Prevent injuries by communicating the risks of any fitness program to participants.
4.
Assist lifeguards with aquatic and medical emergencies as able, including administration of CPR/AED/FA.
5.
Maintain a clean and clutter-free aquatic facility.
6.
Inspect the facility and water fitness equipment daily and reports any unsafe conditions or broken equipment to the Program Director.
7.
Complete records and reports as required on schedule and submit them to the Program Director - Davenport.
8.
Participates in training events as needed.
9.
Maintain fitness level (strength and endurance) appropriate for programs instructing.
10.
Participate in and solicit others to participate in necessary YMCA financial development efforts, specifically the Annual Campaign.
11.
Maintain certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements.
12.
Adherence to all policies and procedures of the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley 13.
Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.
14.
Regular and timely adherence to respective schedule/meetings.
15.
All other duties as assigned by the Program Director - Davenport.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 1.
High School Diploma or equivalent 2.
Previous experience leading or participating in water fitness programs for a minimum of 1-2 years is required.
CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: 1.
Must be able to pass background check 2.
CPR/First Aid/AED certification* 3.
Water Fitness Leader/Instructor certification by one or more of the following: Aquatic Exercise Association, Arthritis Foundation, YMCA, United States Water Fitness Association is preferred.
*Note: The * noted certification training programs are provided by YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley staff and must be obtained within 30 days of hire, if not currently certified.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The position of the Water Fitness Instructor requires the ability to assist a lifeguard in any emergency as needed, the ability lift 25 pounds, and the ability to properly demonstrate exercises to participants.
The employee is regularly required to use oral communication skills; observe and interpret people and situations; interact with the members and participants.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to pools, wet and very humid conditions, and chemicals.
Additionally, this position is located in a fitness facility and as such the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts associated with fitness equipment.
The noise level in the work environment can vary from quiet to loud depending upon the programming that is occurring at the time.
Fitness Instructor requires the ability to assist a lifeguard in any emergency as needed, the ability lift 25 pounds, and the ability to properly demonstrate exercises to participants.
The employee is regularly required to use oral communication skills; observe and interpret people and situations; interact with the members and participants.
