Heavy Equipment Resident Field Technician / Mechanic (Construction), RI

SUMMARY: Be a part of our Martin Equipment work family! The Resident Field Technician is responsible for the repair, refurbishment and maintenance of rental and customer diesel equipment to keep equipment readily available for use.
Work is scheduled under the supervision of the Service Manager and is assigned by the Shop Foreman (where applicable).
The resident field technician is expected to be able to successfully complete work assignments without supervisory assistance.
The field technician, however, may seek assistance from the Service Manager or Shop Foreman (where applicable) on the more complex or difficult repairs.
The resident field technician is expected to travel daily to reach the equipment in need of repair, and must adhere to all company, government and equipment vendor safety regulations, procedures, and policies.
This is a remote position; the home office location is Rock Island, IL.
Field work will be performed within an approximate 50-mile radius of Mt.
Pleasant, Iowa and Burlington, Iowa.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Conduct preventative maintenance on equipment.
Service equipment as required to avoid unnecessary repairs.
Perform safety inspections of equipment.
Conduct repairs of customers and rental equipment in the field.
Clean field truck as necessary to maintain a safe work environment.
Answer customer questions regarding equipment repair.
Diagnose problems, request parts, repair equipment, and document the service details for invoicing.
Meet government, company, and equipment vendor safety requirements for safe repair.
and operation of equipment and maintenance of the work area.
Perform special projects as required to meet branch needs.
Must be able to operate a field service truck and all equipment onboard the field service truck; and operate the customer equipment being repaired.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Good verbal, mathematical, and technical skills.
Three to five years’ experience in repair and maintenance of hydraulic and electrical on diesel equipment.
Factory and technical school training in equipment design and safety requirements, and reading schematics is desirable.
A good driving record as required by Martin Equipment.
Must have a valid Class B CDL license with air brake.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, climbing, bending, stooping for extended periods.
Lifting of 50 pounds or more.
Operation of a personal computer/terminal.
Hearing adequate to communicate by telephone and in person.
Vision adequate to examine equipment and manuals.
Ability to work closely with others.
Manual dexterity.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: All required PPE is provided by Martin Equipment and includes, but is not limited to, protective glasses, gloves, and boots.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to petroleum solvents, paints, and fumes (80%).
Exposure to extreme heat or cold (50%).
Operation of mechanical equipment.
Working at heights (5%).
